On a recent educational field trip in Upper Nilgiris (Western Ghats), over 30 students from a leading IB school in India were quick to recognize the immense problem of human trash in forest areas. Their survey led them to believe that the problem originated from nearby towns and also the rising number of tourists that visit the region. It was time for action and to make their voices heard – loud and clear
The group supported by enthusiastic teachers prepared placards with hard hitting slogans. One Earth Foundation helped in connecting with civil society members (special thanks to Mr Charles and Ms Anita) who in turn reached out to the civic authorities. All were eager to join in this noble effort. As the group started cleaning the area starting near Sims Park, many people passing (local and tourists) joined the clean up. Slogans were raised to keep our forests and Coonoor clean. The 3 hour clean up covered a length of over 700 Mtrs and collecting over 200 Kgs of plastic and other garbage.
