Toda Embroidery:  A unique form of Traditional Cultural Expression

One Earth Foundation recently set up a display counter for Toda embroidery at the Taj Gateway Hotel in Coonoor.  We take this opportunity to thank Indian Hotels and the management of the Taj Gateway at Coonoor for their immense support and encouragement in our efforts to preserve and protect the Toda tribal embroidery form.

Under the Toda Embroidery Preservation Initiative by One Earth Foundation, Toda embroidery products are sourced from a Toda tribal womens self help group for display and sale at the counter in the hotel.  Hotel guests and visitors will have an opportunity to see Toda ladies practicing this unique craft which is highly intertwined with their culture and heritage and have the opportunity to purchase and take home  daily use embroidered products.  All proceeds from the sales go back into preserving & promoting the embroidery and into welfare initiatives for the Toda community.  We encourage all art & craft lovers to visit and learn about this unique form of cultural expression of the Toda people from Upper Nilgiris.
